This may be one of the most random posts of all time.
I had a pretty stressful day at work and all I wanted to do was come home and go for a long run at our apartment complex’s gym. Only problem is, the gym closes at 5:30 and I did not get out when I wanted to. And because nobody knows how to drive in rain, there was massive traffic and I knew I wouldn’t make it in time. So I decided to go by Aldi’s after work to get some groceries but I missed the exit, so I ended up doing a bit of shopping at Hy-Vee. I’m glad I did because they had craft beer samples in their wine and spirit department. Win!
Did you know they make these little plastic wine glasses, with a resealable lid for travel purposes? It’s like to-go Franzia – best invention ever!
Stopping by Hy-Vee after work was like a personalized happy hour. It was seriously the best thing after my day – I didn’t necessarily want to go hang out with friends at a crowded restaurant, but I enjoyed the drink(s).
But because I had beer samples and I was starving from not eating lunch today, I wasn’t super productive while shopping. I somehow ended up at the donuts, and I don’t think I’ve ever bought donuts from a grocery store before.
Anyways, the two cutest oldies ever helped me pick out the donuts I wanted. We took turns opening the doors for each other. When I told them to have a good night, he replied “and you have a good morning too!” Alrighty then!
So adorable. They made me smile so much. 🙂 I love old people.
Then I came home and made the biggest pot of pasta in the whole wide world. I guarantee I ate probably four servings. Was it good? Yes. Was it unhealthy? Most likely. Do I care? Not at all.
And I forgot the most exciting part about my trip to Hy-Vee! Angry Orchard Hard Cider reps were there and they gave away free beer glasses. FREE BEER GLASSES?! Ya heard it right.
So today is mine and Kevin’s 5th dating anniversary. I remember the day he asked me to be his girlfriend (I say that like we’re third graders) like it was yesterday. We were heading back to my dorm room after a movie showing we had to see for a class. Meanwhile, he enlisted the help of my roommie and some of the girls on our floor to decorate my room in Christmas lights (Christmas lights are my FAVORITE and I will be the owner of “that house” during Christmas time someday).
(Does this picture look like it was taken 5 years ago?)
Well we’re not very romantic people at all, but last year we at least gave each other some sort of a gift (Reese’s peanut butter cups definitely counts as a gift!). This year we are not doing anything special at all – between moving, buying a house and saving for our wedding next year (exactly one year and one day away!) – we are being super cheap.
It’s still fun to recognize the day though! I can’t believe that one year from today, we’ll be at our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, giving each other our last single kisses and preparing for our wedding day. Still doesn’t seem real!
So now I celebrate year 5 at home watching the Cardinals game while Kevin works. Big bummer, but I’m used to it I guess. After all, I watched game 6 and 7 of the World Series alone last year, which I’d argue was more depressing than being home alone on your anniversary. I still feel sorry for myself over that one.
I’ll take a big fat Cardinals win as my anniversary present! That for sure counts. 🙂
Kevin booked our temporary housing apartment today! We’ll be living in a furnished apartment for the first couple of months while we’re in Louisville and I’m so happy because it’s DOG friendly! We thought we may have to have my parents or Kevin’s mom watch Gracie if we couldn’t find a place, but she gets to stay with us now! Thank goodness because seriously I don’t know what I’d do with myself on nights like this.
