Closed and Owned!

Yesterday around noon, Kevin and I officially became homeowners! And it feels good already. πŸ™‚

IMG_2171 With keys in hand, we headed in and got right to work. After two separate Home Depot trips made yesterday, we got one coat of paint on the walls in the bedroom.

IMG_2176More on that later…first I want to write about our ‘must haves’ when house hunting and show you some of the ‘before’ photos of our new place.

When we began house hunting, Kevin and I sat down and wrote out everything that we NEEDED to have in our future house and our absolutely deal breakers. Then, we wrote out everything that we WANTED, but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for us…the bonuses!

Must haves

  • Good, safe neighboorhood
  • At least three bedrooms
  • At least 1.5 bathrooms
  • Basement (finished or unfinished)
  • Fenced in, flat backyard
  • Open concept or open kitchen/living room
  • Windows/natural light

Deal breakers

  • Galley kitchen
  • Tiny/slanted backyard
  • Houses that needed whole room renovations (a completely new kitchen, bathroom without any fixtures, etc.)

  • Finished basement
  • Garage(s)
  • Hardwood floors

  • We really wanted to put some work into our future home, so we looked at homes that weren’t completely move-in ready, and would require a little bit of lovin’
  • We also didn’t care if the house was one or two story
  • It didn’t matter to us if the house was brick of vinyl, although we preferred the look of brick better.

At the end of the day, we found a house that had everything on our must have list and 1/3 things on our ‘bonuses’ list…the garage!

We have BIG plans for our new baby (the house…the house, people. I’m NOT having a real human baby) and once we nail down all of the plans, I’ll be sharing these pictures again with our room-by-room plans and goals.

For now, please excuse the horrible lighting in these photos – they were taken during our final walkthrough on Monday.

The front! I’m in love with the red door, and the American flag stayed!

IMG_1703 View right when you walk into the house from the front door. We love the openness and the two-story living room.

Garage! And a two car garage at that! I’m a little excited over this one…I’ve never had a garage before (I was always booted to street parking at my parent’s house).

IMG_1713Standing in the ‘dining room’ looking at the living room and all of those WINDOWS (and hideous blinds, which are being removed tonight).

IMG_1714 IMG_1715 The hallway to the first-floor master.

IMG_1716 Big beautiful kitchen! Which leads out to the backyard.

IMG_1720Kevin and I loved the house when we first saw it, but as soon as we stepped outside we knew it was THE house for us. As much as we love being outdoors, this backyard is perfect and wonderful.

IMG_1723 IMG_1729The master bedroom. Stripes be gone!

IMG_1730 Master/hall bathroom.

IMG_1737 Guest bathroom. Kevin likes to call this the “Cincinnati Room” for the UC Bearcats and Reds. I shall decorate it with Cardinals gear galore, until the red paint goes.

Gigantic closet in the guest bedroom, which leads to our favorite room in the house…

IMG_1746 This awesome hidden room! It’s unfinished for now, but has so much potential. The best part is that the door to get in is a little trap door and you’d have no clue it was back there unless we showed you. We’re still thinking of a fun name for this room.

IMG_1747The unfinished basement. The first house that we offered on had an awesome finished basement, and Kevin and I really wanted one when we continued looking, but we knew it wasn’t a deal breaker for us. Finishing the basement is going to be our major project for the house, which will happen slowly (but surely)!

IMG_1751 Laundry hookup in the basement. I honestly didn’t care if the basement had main floor laundry or not, so we didn’t put it on our list. We need to buy some machines now…

And that’s that!

After closing yesterday, we headed straight to the house and began painting the master bedroom. We are finishing packing up our apartment during the mornings/late nights, and spending our evenings at the house painting before we move in (and live out of boxes for weeks) this weekend!

  1. First of all, can’t wait to see the place tonight!! πŸ™‚

But more importantly, your secret room should be called the Red Room of Pain. No matter what it’s used for. Annnnnd I’m gonna call it that pretty much no matter what you decide to call it, hahaha

    • First of all, thank you SO MUCH already for your help! Can’t wait for tonight!

Secondly, that is a good name! I’ll put it on the list of contenders…you can call it whatever you want. πŸ™‚

      • Okay I totally should have googled “Red Room of Pain” BEFORE responding to you! Hah I’m one of the select few who hasn’t read 50 Shades of Grey yet…now I have to read it just so I know what you’re talking about!

  2. Peeking in at your blog because you gave the URL in your reply at YHL Forum when someone was talking about buying their first home.

Just thought you’d like to know… lol

Very cute house, btw, and congrats!
