Not My Momma’s Gravy

Happy Sunday afternoon!

Kevin FINALLY had an evening shift off work so we took advantage and went out to dinner. With Kevin’s funky schedule and trying to save money, this girl doesn’t get taken out on too many fancy dates. Good thing I’m not high maintenance! So when Kevin came home and suggested we go out to dinner, I was ecstatic! We scrolled through some gift cards we have…

Dairy Queen….no.

Jack in the Box…not possible.

Hy-Vee….eat with the 80-year-olds on a Saturday night…no.

Texas Roadhouse….okay!

Texas Roadhouse is nearby and I don’t think I’ve ever eaten at one. If I have, I don’t remember it. We never ate at Texas Roadhouse growing up because my brother is highly allergic to peanuts and that restaurant is peanut-city.

When we walked in, there was a huge line, but the wait was only 35 minutes so we headed to the bar and grabbed a couple tall ones. Ice cold mugs? Yes please! The wait went by pretty fast and pretty soon, we were stuffing our faces with their warm rolls smothered in cinnamon butter. omg.

Can we take a second and make fun of the way Kevin butters his bread? He says “it takes too much time to cut them open.” Mmmmkay.

I really wanted to order the salmon, but Kevin said that’s what he was ordering and I have this weird rule where I don’t order what anyone else orders because I like to taste as many things as possible. It’s more fun that way!

I decided to get their country friend chicken instead because I saw a person next to me eating it and it looked wonderful.

The verdict? It was good, but the gravy wasn’t my favorite.

I talk about my parents being good cooks a lot, and if my mom could win an award for anything in the world, it would be for her gravy. Her dad taught her how to make gravy and oh. my. goodness. it’s to die for.

And because that piece of chicken was bigger than the size of my head, leftovers made for a fantastic lunch today!

After dinner, we rushed home to catch the Blues game and HOORAY, WE WON! We are now in the second round of the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. Wahoo!!

Blog Updates

I know my blog is not the fanciest around, but yesterday I figured out something that made me veeeeerrrrry proud! I rearranged the order of my pages. Big deal. I know. It had been driving me insane for quite awhile and I feel so accomplished now.

With all my talk of travels yesterday, I also made a “travel” page!

Enjoy, friends! 😉
