Race Time

Where has my motivation been?! Almost every night, I’ve thought about blogging, but something else always wins my time. Since Kevin is watching Jersey Shore (rolls eyes), I’m taking advantage of this relaxing hour to do a bit of catch up!

The most recent news: Kev and I signed up for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure here in Des Moines on Oct. 27 and we got our race packets today!

In 2009, I interned for the St. Louis Komen affiliate and loved it. It was absolutely amazing seeing so many survivors, fighters and supporters for one cause. (And it was really fun meeting Hoda Kotb – the honorary chair!)

Me with my fellow interns, Olivia and Alexa

Technically, this is not my first race. My freshman year of college, my friend Lydia and I decided to sign up for a 5K race on campus just to receive a free t-shirt. The race route went right past our dorms so we decided that since we already had our shirt (and it was early and we were tired) that we were done for the day. Oops. At least I still wear the shirt?

Since we have this race coming up at the end of this month, I’ve actually been making exercise a priority. I’m so bad at getting in these moods where I’ll go run or go to the gym 4-5 days a week for a couple of weeks, and then I decide not to go once and I don’t go back for awhile. Consistency is key!

Gracie has been going on these runs with me and she is loving all the fast-paced exercise rather than her usual walks! Last week, Purina Dog Chow sent me a portable doggy water bottle for Gracie to try and she loves it!

It’s really lightweight and easy to clip onto our leash.

Right now they have a promotion going on where you can enter to win an outdoor family pack. It includes a tent for your family and dog, sleeping bags, chairs, travel dog food/bowl and $100 worth of Purina dog food. Simply enter here!

Thanks for sending Gracie the doggy water bowl, Lauren! 🙂

And because we’re on the subject of doggies, I picked up new treats for Gracie at PetSmart last week because Jess was raving about how much her dog, Callie loves them.

The verdict with Grace? She loves them! These Nutro Crunchy Treats are 100% natural and smell like real fruit. This time, I picked the apple flavor and it actually smells like I just cut up apples.

I can’t wait to get the mixed berry and pomegranate flavor next! (Hint, Nutro PR department – if you want to send some samples, we’d love that! :))

(And you may think that because they’re 100% natural that they’re expensive, but they’re surprisingly affordable!)

For all you dog owners, I have a serious question for you. How often do you bathe your dog?

And with that, I’m off to lay in bed and watch some Friends. Unfortunately we don’t get the NFL network so no Rams game for me tonight. Kev and I don’t have big plans this weekend, EXCEPT FOR WATCHING THE  CARDINALS GAME TOMORROW! Can I get a #12in12? Man, I love Red October!

(This post was not sponsored by Purina. They sent me the doggy water bowl in exchange for a tweet, but Gracie loved it so much I wanted to mention it here too.)

  1. We try to bathe our dog, Cali, as “often” as possible. We thought once a week was decent but when I took her to the vet last they told me that was too much and that the oil was actually good for her coat and we may end up drying out her skin if we do it too much. She said once a month is good – which I think is ridiculous. The dog plays outside and ends up smelling so I think twice a month is what I’m settled on. Maybe ask your vet next time you go…might be different for different types of dogs.

    • Ok that makes me feel better! She smells so bad after playing outside so I always want to give her a bath (even though it’s a pain in the butt).
