STL Pride

Can I just talk about how excited I am that the Cardinals are in the post season? Not only are we in the post season (amazing run, by the way!) but, we BEAT the PHILLIES in game FIVE in THEIR stadium. Oh yeah, and the score was 1-0. It was such a crazy game, I could hardly stand it!

I credit this little guy with our awesome wins:

Now we play the Brewers. We shall see how that goes, but I have faith!

Also, the BLUES season started! I’m so excited for hockey this year. We have David Perron coming back eventually and a few veteran players added to our roster. It should be a great next few months!

I’ve been a Blues fan my WHOLE life. I credit that to my hockey-loving (and playing) parents. They used to dress me up head-to-toe in Blues gear (I even had Blues socks and a Blues headband…I was intense) and take me to all the games.

Blues fan from birth:

I also convinced Kevin to be a Blues fan!

I got to meet my one of my favorite players last year (hoTTY with a capital TTY):

Now that I live in Iowa, I don’t get to go to any of the games. Instead, I have to watch at home, which is WAY less fun than going to the rink. I’m fortunate enough to have Fox Sports Midwest, though – it could be worse! When I was in college, it was all about the Blackhawks because we were so close to Chicago. Oh, and for all you Blackhawk “fans” (aka the people that realized Chicago had a hockey team after they brought Lord Stanley to the city), take a peek at this video (below). Anti-Blackhawk fans will also thoroughly enjoy – I know that was a little harsh, but you know it’s true. Don’t get me wrong – the Blackhawks are a good hockey team, but the video is hilarious. These guys are great:

I’m just full of STL pride this week!

Notice how I didn’t mention the Rams? (Cough, umm, 0-4, cough, cough umm.)

Switching gears here. Last night I made these amazing, moist, mouth-watering cinnamon sugar oatmeal craisin cookies. They were delicious.

Finished product:

My recipe (adapted from Better Homes and Gardens 15th edition cookbook):

1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon (plus a little extra pinch) ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flower
1 cup craisins (plus a little more)
3 cups oatmeal (it looks like a lot, but I promise, you’ll want to add all 3 cups)

Preheat the oven to 350 and beat butter, brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.

Beat eggs and vanilla. Then, add the flour (add a little at a time). Then, add the craisins and oats. Then, lick your spoon.

Scoop dough onto pan and put in the oven for 9 minutes. Then, lick the bowl.

YUM!

Switching gears again. I pre-ordered the iPhone 4S on Friday and I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT TO GET IN this Friday! Is it Oct. 14 yet? Hmph…I wish. Kevin, on the other hand, is dreading the arrival of my iPhone. See, he still has a phone that is capable of T9, does not have internet and has a slide-out keyboard. He, however, loves it and says he refuses to get a smartphone until there’s not an option BUT to buy smartphones (which won’t be long, folks). You just wait, he’ll be on my new iPhone more than me. I’m predicting it now.

  1. I used to swear I’d never get a smartphone too. But then my dad bought all his employees smartphones and then snuck in his kids to bank on the whole “buy one get one free” deal. So I got a Droid Incredible and my life has forever been changed. I can’t imagine not being able to Google something at the drop of a hat just because I’m curious.

    • Kirsten – I completely agree! We didn’t get smart phones until Black Friday of 2009 when my dad picked up four Blackberry phones for FREE at Best Buy. My dad, for years, kept saying, “I don’t need a smartphone. All I need is a phone to talk to people” and now he can’t put it down. 🙂 I could not imagine my life without a smartphone! Kevin will be addicted eventually.
