Merry Christmas 2013

Another amazing Christmas in the books! I think they get better each and every year.

Kevin and I celebrated our first married Christmas by exchanging presents between the three of us (including Grace!) the Monday before Christmas. We lit a fire, drank wine, listened to Christmas tunes and had a blast watching each other open our gifts.

The soundbar I gave Kevin makes our TV sound so great. I mean, Modern Family sounds totally better now. I’m sure Kevin thinks basketball does too. 😉

I was a spoiled one this year: Blues tickets for a Nashville game, an adorable Kate Spade purse, We’re the Millers and a silly surprise of Funyuns (my favorite).

After presents and a nice homemade dinner, we watched It’s a Wonderful Life, which is truly the best Christmas movie around. Such a classic!

We arrived in St. Louis on Christmas Eve and headed to my grandma and grandpa Bladdick’s house for their annual bash. As usual, a great time was had by all!

I made three types of cookies and desserts. My little brother made one kind and they were gone before dinner was even served. He wins. (I will have to get the recipe from him to post because the cookie/oreo/brownie was the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life.)

After dinner, Santa arrived! Can you believe it?!

The kiddos were quite excited.

So was grandpa!

Mass chaos ensued after Santa arrived.

Then it was time for the piñata! I have no idea why we do this, but it’s always fun watching the kids break it open (and then stealing a piece (or five) of candy).

After the party, we went to church and snuggled in our beds for Santa to come deliver more presents. We always open presents in the morning at my mom and dad’s house and we have this little tradition where me and Brendan (and now Kevin!) have to wait in the hallway until my mom and dad get the video camera set up in the living room before we walk in. Yes, we’re 24 and 19. So fun though!

Our new tradition, now that we’re older 21, is Bailey’s in our coffee.

Kevin doesn’t like coffee, so he got Bailey’s on the rocks. Not a bad breakfast treat!

We made sure to FaceTime Kevin’s mom and sister to wish them a very Merry Christmas!

After we exchanged gift, we headed back to my grandma and grandpa Bladdick’s house for brunch and more gifts…in our pajamas, as usual!

Later that afternoon, we went to my mom’s mom’s house to visit with some more family. Then, me, Kevin, Brendan, my mom and dad arrived back home just in time to play a few rounds of Cards Against Humanity and watch We’re the Millers together. For dinner, we had my dad’s famous wings and Angelo’s pizza – a perfect way to cap off Christmas day.

On our way out of town yesterday, Kevin and I stopped by my cousin’s house because her and her husband just had their first baby earlier this month. Their little teenie tiny girl was born at just 5 lbs. 7 oz., and she’s seriously the cutest little thing around! She sneezed twice while I was holding her and my heart exploded. Adorable! Congrats again, Kelly & Eric!

All in all, we had another wonderful Christmas! We’re so blessed!

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas! And for all of those who worked today (like me) – happy weekend to you!

Christmas Prep

This weekend might as well have been declared EAT ALL THE COOKIES weekend because that’s what it sure felt like! It rained cats and dogs and we even got a nice little thunderstorm, so it was the perfect weekend to finish Christmas shopping, wrap presents and make a million cookies.

Kevin’s favorite cookies are spritz cookies (or as he calls them, “Christmas trees”). I don’t like them at all, but this kitchen gadget is so fun to use!

Get this: Kev loves spritz cookies; I hate ’em. I love cake pops; Kev hates ’em…of course! But it’s Christmas…so multiple types of desserts are a must. Cake pops are such a pain to make, so I hardly ever do, but again…Christmas is a special occasion.

The last cookie I made this weekend was specially requested by my grandma. My grandma and grandpa host Christmas Eve for the whole family (both of their sides!) and she said she wanted my oatmeal craisin cookies to make an appearance, along with the other treats I’m bringing. Can’t say no to grandma! I also can’t say no to these cookies – I’ve eaten like 12 today.

All of the presents are wrapped and under the tree and it is making me SO excited to go to St. Louis tomorrow morning!

Kevin and I are exchanging out gifts tonight, while we make a nice dinner at home and watch It’s a Wonderful Life.

It’s going to be the best way to kick off Christmas week!
