$100 Worth the Wait

My parents and little brother were supposed to come to Louisville this weekend to visit and help us with some house-related projects (aka dad installing our new sliding patio door), but my mom ended up having to work so we had to reschedule. Luckily, Kevin and I had a plan B – IKEA!

It was Cincinnati’s Ikea 5 year anniversary, so they were giving away gift cards to the first 105 people in line, ranging from $5 – $500. We got up before the sun rose and got in line right around 7:30 a.m. to wait for their 9:30 a.m. opening.

It would have been worth it for the free coffee and cinnamon buns they handed out…

(Apparently I don’t know how to open my eyes at 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning)

Did I mention breakfast and lunch were free too?

We had a list of things we wanted to make a priority and we got nearly everything purchased that we wanted!

Including a new chair for the living room! We were nervous driving it from the store to Kevin’s mom’s house, but we made it.

IMG_2591However, we weren’t so confident driving it from Cincinnati to Louisville today, so we decided to open the box when we got back to see how the packaging worked. Turns out, the parts fit in Kevin’s car without the box so we were able to bring it home today!

IMG_2594Poor Gracie had to suffer because we bought so much stuff.

Now for the real important stuff…who’s ready for Selection Sunday?! Go Valpo!

Painting…Like a Boss

I’ve never been so happy to put away a paint brush. WHAT. A. WEEK!

And we could not have done it without our absolutely wonderful friends and family (THANK YOU, to Kevin’s mom and aunt, Danny, Sara, Kevin and Kirsten for all of your help this week and weekend. Seriously.)

The colors in the house…well…weren’t exactly our style, so we decided to paint almost the whole house before moving in. We were on a mission…and¬†surprisingly¬†it was competed and much more (again, thanks to all of our help).

On Tuesday, Kev and I headed straight to the house after closing, slapped some samples on the wall and began taping off the rooms.

We started painting the bedroom first, and the stripes were soon long gone.

IMG_2195 IMG_2196After a second coat in the bedroom on Wednesday night, we called that room good and moved to the biggest room in the house…

…The living/dining/kitchen room that was originally a very odd shade of green. It was bright and dark all at the same time. It had to go.

IMG_2203 We knew we wanted a grey with blue undertones, but picking out a color was really hard! We ultimately decided on the darkest of the three and now that it’s done, we’re obsessed with the color. (I don’t know the name of it off hand…I’ll find it and post it later.)

IMG_2205Thankfully, the big room only needed one coat of paint, and with the help of everyone, we got the main parts done on Thursday and Friday while Kevin’s Aunt finished up the kitchen on Saturday.

Do you like our lovely window treatments? Floral sheets and black trash bags…how nice. I’d argue they’re better than the vertical blinds.

After the big room, we tackled the hallways and accent wall in the living room. The previous brown color made it seem so dark and with all the natural light, we were really looking for a way to brighten it up even more…enter…Oyster Bay by Valspar.

On Saturday, we began the moving process. Danny and Kevin, along with the other Kevin, pretty much moved all of our belongings to the house while Sara and I painted the bathroom and Kevin’s mom and aunt worked on the hallways and kitchen. Team work FTW.

While all of this was going on, Sara and I transformed the master bedroom from a baby boy’s nursery color to a rich, deep navy.

photo 2I think it’s safe to say we were thrilled when that room was done. It was small, hot and there were way too many corners for our likings.

Nevertheless, it’s done (being painted) and we love it!

On Saturday night, we took a well-deserved break and headed to a nearby Mexican restaurant for delicious food and margaritas.

IMG_2231 Two for ones!

IMG_2232After dinner, we enjoyed our fridge full of beer. We may not have food, but we have beer. That’s all that counts anyways.

We slept in on Sunday and once we got moving, Kevin and Danny put up our flat screen above the fireplace. It took a few tries, but now that it’s up, it looks awesome and we love it.

IMG_2246 IMG_2247After Danny and Sara left to go back to Cinci, we started unpacking a bit. We didn’t get very far, but at least the process has started.

It’s also safe to say that our Grace absolutely loves her new backyard. She’s been having a grand time out there running around (and Kevin and I are loving not having to take her to the bathroom on a leash. Win win.)

Again, we cannot thank our friends and family enough for helping us this week and weekend. Kev and I would still be painting the bedroom if it was just us two!
