For those of you who don’t know, Kevin is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, and they just placed him in Des Moines, IA. We have been together for nearly four years, and I could not imagine spending the next couple of years living in two different places, which is why we have decided to make this very important next step in our lives!
Since we started dating, we’ve always talked about what would happen after graduation. I graduated a semester early, in December, and took an internship with an amazing PR firm – Weber Shandwick (more on that later). The past five months have been rough, with me in St. Louis and Kevin still in Valpo. It was almost like we were living two different lives and we hardly ever got to see each other.
After a great few months with Weber Shandwick, I am ready to move on and learn and grow even more in my career with Trilix Group – an agency in Johnston, IA (just north of Des Moines). I will be a PR Specialist (yes, people, an actual job, NOT an internship) and accepted the offer last week and I could not be more excited! I start there on June 27, 2011.
Weber Shandwick has been the best experience post-graduation. My clients are really freaking cool: Anheuser Busch InBev (specifically Budweiser, Shock Top and Stella Artois), Verizon Wireless STL region, Hardee’s, Last Minute Travel and Exxon Mobil. Like I said, pretty cool clients. The people in my office are the best! They’ve become family-like these past few months, especially with friends being gone. I have learned more about PR in the last five months, than I did in 3.5 years at Valpo (thanks, Bon), and I’m incredibly grateful for all the wonderful opportunities Weber gave me.
In addition to starting a new job, Kevin and I just applied for our first apartment today! We applied for an apartment in Johnston, IA, which is very close to both of our offices. Even better – there is a lake right by our apartment – which will be awesome in the summer!
Living with a boy is going to be fun, but also really scary and different. I’m so used to living with either my family or all girls (yay Kappa!). Now that it’s just going to be us two (literally, we don’t know anyone in Des Moines), it will take a lot of getting used to, but I really think we’ll be able to learn so much about ourselves and each other through this experience.
If you don’t know me very well, you may not know my slight (okay, major) obsession with the show Friends. Below is one of my favorite clips from the show – which is where the title of my blog comes from. Monica is getting ready to move in with Chandler, and Rachel has to move out. After a brief fight, they realize how much they are going to miss each other and Monica’s infamous line “But I have to live with a boy!” will always make me laugh.
