The Best 10 Classic Movies

This is a VERY common conversation in our house:

Me: “Oh my gosh! _______ is on TV!”

Kevin: “What’s _____? I’ve never seen it.”

Me: [jaw open] “YOU’VE NEVER SEEN _____________?!?!”

I don’t know if I watched too many movies growing up, or if Kevin didn’t watch enough but seriously, this happens once a week.

Last night, we were flipping through the channels and I found Vegas Vacation. Kevin admitted he had never seen it – I almost died when I heard that. So I left it on and he fell asleep. Hmph.

Tonight, we were flipping through the channels and I spotted Grease and immediately began freaking out with excitement. Kevin rolled his eyes and turned on the NBA Finals. (Cue me walking into the other room).

As I sit here watching this classic*, I thought of the other million movies that I absolutely love (that Kevin has never seen), and decided to put together a little list of the 10 movies that I would consider “classic.”

The Best 10 Classic Movies [in my opinion]
in no particular order

  • The Sandlot
  • Home Alone 1 & 2
  • Grease
  • Ferris Beuller’s Day Off
  • Stand by Me
  • National Lampoon’s Vacations
  • It’s a Wonderful Life
  • Wizard of Oz
  • Happy Gilmore
  • Uncle Buck
  • Planes Trains & Automobiles
  • (Dirty Dancing) – I know this is 11 but I can’t leave it off

Some honorable mentions (suggested by friends and family):

  • Fast Times at Ridgemont High
  • Animal House
  • Back to the Future
  • E.T.
  • Indiana Jones
  • Jurassic Park
  • Twister (one guess who suggested this as a classic)
  • Star Wars
  • Pretty Woman
  • North by Northwest
  • Scarface
  • Sound of Music
  • Center Stage
  • That Thing you Do
  • Bill Madison
  • Fight Club
  • The Lion King
  • Rear Window
  • Charade

*Classic = movie in which when you hear that someone has never seen it you think they’re crazy and wonder how someone could be living without seeing that movie. 🙂

Tell me, do you agree with my top 10 classic movies? How many of my top 10 have you seen? Which ones? What are your favorite classics?
